Holmium Laser Prostatectomy

Posted on 11 January 2009

Among the operation techniques developed for the treatment of BPH:
HoLRP is the most recent one;
it is a very safe, effective and comfortable method for removing the adenoma.

HoLRP has been in clinical use since 1994, and today, it is accepted as a revolutionary development for the surgical treatment of BPH.
This technique is equivalent to TUR-P:
the enlarged adenoma is resected into pieces and removed via urethra, but a special laser called HOLMIUM LASER is used for the resection process instead of high-frequency electrical current.
Because of this:

  • No risk of bleeding or blood transfusions,
  • Hospitalization and catheterization periods are very short (1 NIGHT),
  • No need for bladder irrigation after the operation,
  • Return to active life can be achieved in 2-3 days,
  • No risk of impotence or incontinence,
  • As effective as TUR-P and open procedures.
